The term projects this semester involve setting up a functional ecommerce Web site employing PHP and MySQL using pre-packaged open-source ecommerce software in the form of a shopping cart package or a content management system. You may choose to set up either an informational business Web site (using Mambo, PHP-Nuke, PostNuke, or PHPX) that can be maintained by the business (thanks to CMS software) or an ecommerce catalog for a real or fictional business complete with product photos and information (using osCommerce or FishCart). Links to all six open-source (FREE) PHP-based ecommerce packages are given below:
Package | URL |
Mambo | http://www.mamboserver.com |
PHP-Nuke | http://www.phpnuke.org |
PostNuke | http://www.postnuke.com |
PHPX | http://www.phpx.org/ |
osCommerce | http://www.oscommerce.com |
FishCart | http://www.fishcart.org |
You will install any of the above packages in your ISCM server folder and produce the final project online for presentation in class.
Here are some guidelines for your sites:
Informational Site:
Shopping Cart Site:
Your sites should be portfolio-quality, business-based, and contain consistent headers, footers, design and layout throughout. Link to the main page of your ecommerce site from your MMIS 6293 home page.
In addition to the site setup, you will type a 2-page, double-spaced, 1" margin, 12-point Times Roman font report detailing what tools you used and how you set up the site, along with any maintenance instructions for future use (admin info, passwords, etc.).
